FOR A LIFE-CHANGING 4-DAY MEDITATION RETREAT
FEBRUARY 2ND – FEBRUARY 5th, 2023

Peace Is This Moment
Break free from the constant chasing and resisting that prevents you from flowing with life. Letting go of these mind movements is the first step in learning to trust the present moment. To live more fully in the joy and peace of each moment.
I’ve been in your shoes, looking from the outside and questioning, Is it possible to live in the present moment?
Can you live more mindfully, more peacefully?
Absolutely! And that’s what I want to show you.
Living Mindfully, Living Peacefully is about living in accordance
with the universal laws of nature.
Drawing on Buddhist wisdom and compassion teachings, we’ll set up a foundation for understanding what prevents you from knowing peace – the mind movements, habits, and beliefs that are the obstacles.
And then we’ll go deeper.
Exploring the beliefs you hold about spirituality versus your direct experience. To see for yourself what is happening? How things are happening? Who is in control?
In most spiritual settings, we dance around these questions taking on the
beliefs of others, not seeing for ourselves.
For decades I was stuck in this mode as well, thinking I was seeing but really I was just parroting what everyone else was saying – and while it provided a little relief, it paled in comparison to seeing for myself.
My objective is to change that for you, to help you see for yourself what’s happening here – in your own direct experience.
That is how you shed old beliefs that are holding you back from
knowing the peace that is your true nature.
It’s how you see the world and everything in it with more wonder and awe. It’s how your heart stays open, with qualities of forgiveness, kindness, and compassion.
In short, it’s how you Live Mindfully and Peacefully.
The retreat will be held at my home in La Ventana Bay, a small fishing village surrounded by majestic desert mountains and framed by miles of sandy beach.
If you are flying in we will help you to find accommodation – anything from budget-friendly places right up to luxury hotels. As many of the participants are local we’ll also organize rides to and from my house each day.
You’ll have plenty of free time before and after we meet each day to explore all that La Ventana has to offer.
You can take it easy with a massage, a gentle walk on the beach, and relaxing by a pool at one of the many resorts that offer day passes. If you’re looking for a little more physical movement, you can go snorkeling, stand-up paddle boarding, kitesurfing, mountain biking, or drop in on one of the many yoga classes offered in town.

ABOUT MEREDITH HOOKE, CMMI, CLC

My spiritual path began with meditation in 1999, but in reality, it started much earlier, with the recognition that I just wasn’t happy. No matter how things looked on the outside on the inside, I was suffering.
I had tried many different methods of self-help, therapy, anti-depressants, and self-medicating, but nothing filled up this aching hole inside of me. I still saw myself as flawed, unloveable, and unworthy.
Through decades of meditation practice, studying Buddhism, and other ancient Eastern religious traditions, the grip on this old story of who I thought I was gradually started to fall apart. And in its absence, the seeing of who I am and what is really happening here.
Everything I teach is to help you see this for yourself. To help you let go of the old story that is preventing you from seeing what is really here.
So you can live more mindfully, more peacefully.

What Past Retreat Participants Had To Say…

Sue Mohr
British Columbia, Canada
“It would take pages to describe everything that I enjoyed, but if I had to state only one it would be the people. First, Meredith’s caring, experience, passion, and attention to detail and her ability to convey the information so beautifully. And second, the depth of soul and empathy of all the participants and their desire to learn more about themselves and how to support others. I met many new friends.
All I can say is that the retreat was beyond anything I could have imagined. I thought I might get bored at some point during the 4 days, but I was totally focused throughout each day. It was amazing how well I stayed engaged with everything that was offered.”

Heather Horsfall
Nova Scotia, Canada
“This retreat more than met my expectations. I was delighted by the group and the trust that grew. The level of openness in the small group discussion I was involved with was a terrific surprise. I didn’t expect the time to go so quickly and I didn’t expect to love your voice and delivery for four intense days as much as I did. I think I could listen to you all day every day forever. “

Carol Hanner
Oregon, USA
“I truly feel that my life changed and I noticed it the second day in my relationship with my husband. Meredith gave me the tools – now I need to bring them into my daily life and routine. The journaling really helped. I found I could express myself like I haven’t been able to in ages. The letter to ourselves was really effective. I can’t believe how much I wanted to say to myself. It poured out of me. “

Mary Napier
British Columbia, Canada
“The best parts for me were 1. the connection and sharing of the group which was exceptional in my experience with groups and 2. Meredith. You were the heart and soul of the retreat, guiding us through the meditations and learning practices with your soothing voice, your wonderful sense of humor and the huge amount of wisdom and food for thought you offered.”

Graham Wilson
Yukon, Canada
“I now understand why retreats are important to the practice of meditation. Having the opportunity to immerse yourself seems to have significant impact. I look forward to participating in other retreats with Meredith.”

Doreen Bryant
Washington, USA
“My favorite thing about the retreat was the people. I met so many people that I really didn’t know before. The discussions and heartfelt interactions were greatly appreciated. Of course the teachings shared by Meredith were the reason we all were there. I thought that the topics and discussions were well thought out and planned and with the many breaks and changes in topics it never became boring. Thank you so much for bringing something like this to La Ventana.”
Frequently Asked Questions
What if I’m new to meditation or have never meditated at all?
This retreat is intended for people with some meditation experience who are looking to deepen their experience and understanding. If you are unsure whether this will be a good fit for you or not please email me at: meredith.hooke@gmail.com.
I’ve heard that meditation retreats can be very intense, is this retreat like that?
Yes, some meditation retreats have the purpose of being very intense – that is not the purpose of this retreat.
We will be meeting for several hours a day enjoying a variety of teachings, guided meditations, and also breakouts for you to converse with the other participants. There is also plenty of time for you outside our meeting times to relax and enjoy the peaceful surroundings of La Ventana.
What if I have physical limitations?
Chairs and floor-style meditation seats (with backs) are available to sit in for the teachings and meditations.
Is Mexico safe?
I have been coming to Baja Mexico for over 10 years, live here full-time as a single woman, and feel very safe. It is mostly middle-class, by Mexican standards, and is very family-oriented. Over the winter the population is more than half Americans and Canadians and the local residents happily welcome us.
Do I need a visa?
